All of us at the Frederick County 4-H Camp & Activities Center, Inc. share in the deep sorrow at the loss of a tremendous leader and volunteer in our community. During this time of sorrow, though, we celebrate the countless ways that Mr. Charles Smith made our world a better place.

Mr. Charlie founded this facility with his wife, Jane. There would not be a Frederick County 4-H Camp & Activities Center without him. He was the first president of our Board of Directors, and served with us always.

From lobbying to butchering, from cooking to building, from dream to reality, Mr. Charlie built the Frederick County 4-H Camp & Activities Center.

He and Jane hosted fundraisers and chaperoned Wake-A-Thons to keep the youth involved and active in a safe and beautiful setting. For thousands of 4-H Members over the years, Mr. Charlie gave his time, wisdom, and energy; I particularly enjoyed the wisdom and Orvielle Redenbacher popcorn he popped for us all!

We love you Charlie and are so grateful for all you have done for us!

Jane and all of their family is in our hearts and prayers. Thank you for sharing Charlie with all of us for all of these years!
